My favorite tattoos have simple subject matter with minimum or no background and can be described in one or two words.

I like: high contrast, stylized realism, simple color pallets, drop shadows, smooth shading, red linework, white highlights.

The Rod of Asclepius, or Staff of Aesculapius. The snake entwined around a staff is associated with healing and medicine. It is considered the correct symbol of medicine, rather than the caduceus (two snake around winged staff). The basking shark is the second largest shark/fish. Adults can reach 26ft in length. It is a slow moving filter feeder with a mouth that has evolved for that purpose.
